I Heard a Bird: Poe's The Raven reimagined for children
Paperback picturebook format.
I Heard a Bird (The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe) rewritten by Micah Edwards, Illustrated by Tom Brown
This is the second book in Micah Edwards' "Li'l Eddie" book series. These books keep the bones of Poe's original work intact, but recast everything in a tone and style suitable for children. The first book in the series, Ricky's Spooky House, is an 8"x8" board book (available here too).
Li'l Eddie and his tales were invented as a joke back in 2010. Essentially, Micah's thought process was, "What's the least appropriate reinterpretation of an Edgar Allan Poe story?" He briefly dabbled with the idea of interpretive dance, but settled instead upon a children's story.
Poe's doubtless turning over in his grave at this. Really, though, Micah thinks Poe would completely approve of turning over in his grave. So in a roundabout way, it's what he would have wanted.
Tom Brown's delightful illustrations bring the spooky fun to life!
